Welcome to Prettygate Junior School.
It is with pleasure that we welcome you to our school. The purpose of this document is to share with you the aims of what our school offers and set out the information you are likely to need or want in preparation for your child joining the school.
The following five points set out the aims of the education we offer:
- To build cultural capital through knowledge, skills and experience.
- To open up possibilities and opportunities.
- To engender curiosity, interest and passion.
- To encourage tolerance and understanding of differences.
- To enable our children to take their place as useful, productive members of society, able to shape their own futures and that of the world they live in.
At Prettygate Junior School we will make every effort to ensure that all children enjoy their time with us and experience significant success. As a priority, we seek to secure high levels of attainment for all children – regardless of need – through a high-quality, balanced and well thought-out curriculum supported by the rigorous teaching of knowledge and acquisition of skills. Our intention is to prepare children for the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead of them, engendering in them a desire to learn and succeed across the curriculum. We are proud of the varied cultures and languages that make up our school community; we believe it is important that staff and children do not just demonstrate tolerance of these differences but celebrate them too. As well as academic success, our school is committed to the development of the whole child, taking into consideration their physical, emotional and social development. We want our children to be respectful, well-mannered, happy individuals who are able to make a positive contribution to society.
We pride ourselves in being an inclusive school, aiming to bring out the best in every child according to their interests and abilities. We hope you and your child will have a very positive time here at Prettygate and look forward to working with you over the next few years.
