Prettygate Junior School is a successful and caring school, serving children aged from 7 to 11, from the Prettygate area of Colchester. There are 8 classrooms (plus a demountable classroom used for small group work), a computer suite, a large hall, libraries and a good size field.

The school has a tradition of excellence, identified in the recent Ofsted inspection report, and is keen to ensure that this is built upon in all areas of school life. The basic skills of English, maths and science are developed in all year groups - within specified lessons and also as part of other subjects (eg diary writing within a history topic). Information Communication Technology (ICT) is also developed across the curriculum. The school is proud of the ICT facilities it offers children.

Alongside these subjects, children are given the opportunity to work with specialist teachers. The school employs a music teacher who works with all children. A games coach also works with the children on a programme of PE activities. Parents and friends work with small groups, supplementing class activities. The school is extremely grateful to these helpers for their time, energy and enthusiasm. Extra curricular activities provide additional opportunities - these vary during the year but include football, netball, rugby, recorders, computer club, rounders, chess.

A strong pastoral system underlies the school's everyday operation. We aim to help all our children work towards becoming responsible and caring adults in a rapidly changing world.

All admission arrangements for the school are handled by Planning and Admissions, Learning Services, Chelmsford, (see prospectus for further details).
